KŌ, situated at the Hotel Intercontinental Singapore, draws a regular audience of Japanese salaryman with its quality-driven, Japanese fare. Its regular, weaned on its reliable and spot-on service, keep returning for its perfectly-crafted sushi, fresh sashimi and enticing kaiseki menus.
We’re going out on a limb to say that no matter where you may be there are a few things that every respectable Japanese restaurant must have: fresh fish, a dedicated and skilled team of chefs, and impeccable service that will satisfy the most particular, nit-picking patrons. KŌ certainly lives up to that standard since opening its doors at Hotel Intercontinental Singapore in 2006.
Judging by how it is constantly packed with expatriates and Japanese businessmen (a sure sign of its authenticity), KŌ is a well-kept secret amongst the local Japanese community. The cosy, warmly-lit restaurant is especially crowded on Tuesdays and Thursdays, because that’s when the restaurant receives its supply of fresh fish directly from Tokyo’s legendary Tsukiji Market. The wonderfully fresh bounty appeals to sashimi beginners and devotees alike, with even superstar Sir Tom Jones singing KŌ’s praises by declaring it “fantastic”.
Apart from the sublime sashimi and sushi all expertly prepared by the highly experienced Japanese chefs behind the counter, there are two other stand-out dishes that flaunt the classic yet inventive nature of KŌ’s menu. The lobster ohgonyaki is simply a match made in heaven—juicy, charcoal-grilled lobster flesh drenched with a luscious, buttery egg yolk cream. Another must-have is the maguro steak—a high quality, pan-seared tuna steak studded with piquant peppercorns and drizzled with a unique red wine and teriyaki sauce. Trust us, both are well worth busting the cholesterol charts for!
